Lake Mary, Fla., April 2015 - FARO Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: FARO), the world's most trusted provider of 3D measurement, imaging, and implementation Technologies, announced the launch of a new designed PointSense for Autodesk's Revit® architecture design software.PointSense introduces groundbreaking features that significantly improve evaluation and the transformation of point cloud data into building Information Modeling (BIM).
While BIM has become the standard for planning, building and new facility management, Autodesk Revit® is one of the most sophisticated BIM programs for the AEC (Construction, Engineering and Construction) industry. The release of FARO's latest software directly accelerates and simplifies the analysis and design of laser-scanned data in Autodesk Revit®.
"PointSense is FARO's first software offering following its recent acquisition of Kubit ™, and underscores FARO's corporate strategy to become the market leader in AEC," FARO President and CEO Jay Freeland announced."As BIM continues to be a recognized requirement in the construction industry, we recognize the need to provide our customers with field-to-finish (on-site workflow) solutions.PointSense strengthens the architectural design process by simplifying the extraction of BIM models from export to point cloud. This is just the beginning of FARO's effort to further enhance the scanning to BIM workflow."
PointSense users will experience additional features compared to the traditional, original Autodesk Revit® tools on the market. Some of the new features include extracting and correcting building walls, creating existing types of Revit® such as doors, Windows, and beams, constructing line segments and ground models, capturing real THREE-DIMENSIONAL point clouds, planar detection, and generating scaled down orthographies.
PointSense will be available to users as of May 4, 2015.
